No bail for arrested political thugs – Plateau police

Plateau State Police Commissioner, Mr. Nasiru Oki, has warned that the police will not grant bail to any person arrested for political thuggery.
He has therefore admonished politicians to caution their supporters.
Oki, while speaking at peace meeting with candidates from different political parties on the March general elections in Jos on Tuesday, said he would not entertain any plea by any politician to release anybody arrested for violating any terms of the parties peace agreement during and after the elections.
The police commissioner added that people had been sufficiently sensitised, adding that he called a meeting of political stakeholders in the state to agree on peaceful elections.
On the part of the police, the commissioner said the law enforcement agency was ready to effectively keep the peace during the elections.
He said, “I have a mandate from the Inspector General of Police, Mr Suleiman Abba, to ensure that elections are peaceful in the state and I have to warn that no political thug will be granted any bail. So, I don’t expect you to come and beg for anybody.
“The only thing you can do now is to warn them(supporters) to keep off from violent act because we’ll not spare anybody who engages in thuggery.
“Let me reiterate, there won’t be bail for any political thug arrested during the elections in the state. Plateau police is ready for the elections. The law is no respecter of anybody, no matter how highly placed and as such, political activities must effectively accommodate the interests of all without undermining the fundamental human rights of the citizens and without also compromising the peace, order, security and safety of lives and property in the state”
On their part, the politicians promised to work for a crisis-free elections in the state.
