Alao-Akala supporters decry arrests of LP leaders

A political group, supports the return of Adebayo Alao-Akala as governor of Oyo State, has decried what it described as the unlawful arrests of four Labour Party members by the Department of State Service in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
It alleged that the arrests were carried out on the order of the House Leader of the House of Representatives, Mulikat Akande-Adeola.
A statement by the coordinator of the group, which is known as Team Akala, Niran Adeyoju, said the arrests were a ploy to destabilise the party and intimidate its members and supporters ahead of the coming elections.
The statement claimed that the arrested LP members were moved to Abuja on Monday after they were arrested on Sunday.
Adeyoju said, “The soaring popularity and widespread acceptability of Alao-Akala and the LP are destabilising the Oyo State PDP that they have now decided to arrest LP leaders in all the council areas of the state.
“It will be recalled that some of our members were unlawfully arrested a few weeks ago by the DSS. The politically-motivated action sparked a mass protest before our members were released.”
While condemning the arrests, Adeyoju said the DSS action amounted to rigging before the elections by rendering LP’s political functionaries inactive.
