PDP planning to void Omoworare’s votes – APC

The All Progressives Congress in Osun State has accused the Peoples Democratic Party of planning to connive with some officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission to void some of the votes already credited to Senator Babajide Omoworare.
Omoworare, who contested on the platform of the APC won the election to represent Osun East Senatorial District at the Senate but the PDP candidate Mr. Francis Fadahunsi, who came second had vowed to contest the result at the tribunal.
The Chairman of the APC in the state, Mr. Gboyega Famodun, alerted the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Osun State of the alleged ploy by the PDP in a letter, a copy of which was made available to our correspondent in Osogbo. On Thursday.
Famodun urged the REC to order INEC officials in Osun East Senatorial District to move electoral materials used for the election to the INEC office in Osogbo for safekeeping.
The letter read, ” Information reaching us has suggested that PDP is planning to collude with some unscrupulous elements within your establishment to “void” some of our votes or thump-print some more ballot papers in favor of PDP. We are not just unnecessarily edgy.
“We have thread this path before. The cases of Honourable Abiodun Awolola (Egbedore State Constituency), Honourable Muritala Adegboye Akintunde (Osogbo State Consituency) and Hoourable Nathaniel Agunbiade (Ijesa North Federal Constituency) are too recent to be forgotten.
“In those matters, we verily believe that the ballot that were cast for us were voided in the custody of INEC. We do not have any iota of confidence in INEC on this matter.”
But the Secretary of the PDP in Osun State, Mr. Bola Ajao, denied the allegation while speaking to our correspondent on the telephone.
He said, ” We have never been found culpable in doctoring of election result or documents and we will never be involved in it.
” They are jittery because they know full well that the so called mandate of Omoworare was fraudulently procured and what was done in the secret will soon be blown open.
” The mandate belongs to Fadahunsi and he would be given back his mandate through legal means at the appropriate time.”
It will be recalled that one of the newly elected members of the House of Representatives from the state, Mr. Wole Oke, who is a chieftain of the PDP had last week alleged that one of his opponents was planning to void the votes already credited to him during the poll.
