Breaking: Fire razes buildings at Ibadan army barracks

Property worth millions of Naira were lost in a fire incident at the Supply and Transport Corps Barracks of the Nigerian Army at Eleyele, Ibadan, on Saturday. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that no fewer than 23 apartments were burnt in the incident. An eyewitness, who said the fire outbreak occurred at about 1pm., added that the cause remained unknown. But one of the victims, Mrs Priscilla Kilyobasi, said the incident could be due to the carelessness of a resident in the barrack, who was cooking on a kerosene stove. She explained, “We started seeing smoke coming out from a room on the back row and some people raised the alarm. “On entering the room from the back door, we saw a pot on the stove that was completely burnt and had affected the wood walls. “Sympathisers helped to pour water to contain it, but the fire had started spreading to the other rooms. “Some passers-by helped to call the Fire Service officials at the Government Secretariat and they responded with a truck to cont...

PDP Absolves Self, Blames APC for Okrika Attack

The Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has absolved members of the party from the alleged attack on a supposedly venue of a rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Okrika, Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State in the wee hours of Saturday, January 24, 2015. The PDP condemns the APC for contradictory statements on the attack. The PDP recalls that early in the morning of Saturday, January 24, 2015 the APC said that hoodlums engaged by the APC to watch over the venue fought themselves over sharing of money at the supposed venue of the rally. After  Gen. Muhammadu Buhari’s 1961 West African School Certificate (WASC) results, the Principal of the Government College, Katsina, Mallam Isyaku Bello, has been receiving death threats. The source of the threats could not be ascertained last night. The principal was summoned by his employers, the Katsina State Ministry of Education, in connection with the release of the results, sources close to Mallam Bello said last night.
